A Volunteer's Quiet Presence
When Claire began volunteering at Villa Youville, she simply wanted to give back. What she didn’t expect was how much her weekly visits would mean to one resident who had recently lost her spouse. Through regular coffee chats in French and shared memories of Ste. Anne, a sense of belonging was restored. Sometimes, impact begins with simply showing up.
Regaining Confidence Through Support
After a hospital stay, a resident returned feeling uncertain about living independently. With coordinated support from Home Care and encouragement from staff, she gradually rebuilt her routine. Today, she proudly attends community meals and activities again, confident in her ability to remain in her home.
Community Around The Table
At a shared meal in the Pavillon Restaurant, a new resident sat alone on her first day. Within minutes, two long-time residents invited her to join them. What started as a simple lunch turned into a weekly tradition. At Villa Youville, friendships are formed one conversation at a time.
A Celebration of Culture
During a Francophone celebration, residents, volunteers, and staff gathered to sing familiar songs. One resident, who had been increasingly withdrawn, joined in softly at first — then with full voice. That afternoon reminded everyone that cultural connection strengthens not only community, but personal identity.
Small Acts, Big Difference
A staff member noticed a resident struggling quietly with mobility after a recent illness. With patience and gentle encouragement, she helped coordinate additional supports. Within weeks, the resident was once again walking to the dining room independently. Attentiveness made all the difference.
Family Peace of Mind
When a daughter living out of town worried about her father’s safety, staff helped arrange an emergency response system and regular check-ins. Knowing her father was supported within a caring environment gave her comfort and reassurance, even from miles away.
