1. What is Villa Youville?

Villa Youville is a pioneering seniors’ community that has been leading innovation in care and housing for more than 60 years.

We are not a single stand-alone personal care home. We are an integrated campus and growing network of 55+ residences designed to support aging with dignity, stability, and purpose.

Our model brings together independent living, supportive housing, long-term care, and on-site home care within one coordinated system. Residents are supported as their needs evolve, without unnecessary disruption or fragmentation of services.

Villa Youville operates as a not-for-profit social enterprise. We strategically leverage our expertise in senior care and community-based real estate development to strengthen financial sustainability, expand access to services, and reinvest directly into our mission.

We are building not only for today’s residents but also for the next generation of seniors, who deserve care rooted in community, culture, and quality.

2. How do I apply or access care services?

Access to supportive housing and long-term care is coordinated through a regional panel review process. This ensures that each individual receives the appropriate level of support based on assessed needs.

Applications can be initiated through:

• A family physician

• A Home Care case coordinator

Applicants from outside Southern Health are welcome. Please inform your physician or case coordinator that you wish to include Villa Youville as one of your preferred options.

If you are unsure where to begin, contact your local Home Care office.
For Ste. Anne: 204-422-3115

Independent living inquiries can be made directly to our Tenant Resource Coordinator.

3. What are the current wait times?

Wait times vary depending on residence type and level of care required.

Current estimated wait times are:

• Independent Living: 10+ years

• Supportive Housing: 4+ years

• Long-Term Care (Personal Care Home): 3+ years

These timelines may vary based on urgency, assessed care needs, and movement within the campus.

We encourage families to begin planning early. Many individuals join the waitlist well before they need care.

4. Can residents remain in their home as care needs increase?

Yes.

A core principle of Villa Youville is aging in place. Our integrated care model is designed to support residents in their own residence as long as it is safe and appropriate to do so.

Care levels are adjusted based on individual needs, with ongoing assessment and collaboration between residents, families, and our care team.

5. What makes Villa Youville different from other senior living options?

Villa Youville is a not-for-profit charitable organization with a long-standing commitment to community care.

Our community offers:

• Private residences within a campus designed for aging in place
• Integrated health services across the campus
• A resident-directed approach to care
• On-site professional nursing and specialized teams
• Social, cultural, and recreational programming
• A mission-driven model focused on dignity and purpose

A key distinction is our private Villa Youville Home Care team.

Home care services within our campus are delivered by Villa Youville staff, not by the regional health authority. This allows for:

• No missed visits due to regional scheduling gaps
• Immediate response when needs change
• Seamless integration of care plans
• Strong communication between care providers
• Greater continuity and accountability

This integrated structure allows us to respond quickly, maintain quality, and consistently support residents in their own homes.

Our waitlists reflect the trust families place in the stability and quality of our community.

6. How are fees determined?

Villa Youville is committed to maintaining accessible and affordable housing options for seniors.

Independent Living Residences
Our current independent living inventory is designated as affordable housing. Rent is typically geared to income, and eligibility is subject to income limits in accordance with housing program requirements. Applicants must meet established income criteria to qualify.

Supportive Housing and Long-Term Care
Supportive housing and personal care home services are funded through provincially regulated structures. Resident contributions are determined in accordance with provincial guidelines and individual financial assessments.

Additional optional services may carry associated fees depending on care level and personal preferences.

Our team can provide detailed information and guidance based on your situation.

7. What happens if care needs change?

Care needs are regularly assessed.

If additional support becomes necessary, our integrated team works with residents and families to adjust services accordingly. The goal is to provide the right level of care while preserving independence and stability whenever possible.

8. Can families be involved in care decisions?

Yes.

Families are valued partners in care. Communication, care conferences, and ongoing dialogue are part of our approach. We encourage active involvement while respecting resident autonomy and privacy.

9. Do I have to speak French to live at Villa Youville?

Villa Youville is a designated Francophone establishment. Our governance, organizational culture, and primary operations are conducted in French.

We communicate with residents and families in both of Canada’s official languages.

Fluency in French is not required. However, residents are expected to be Francophone-friendly and respectful of the language and culture that define our community. French language and culture are celebrated as an important part of daily life at Villa Youville.
